Organic Bay leaves from our herb garden
Bay leaves make a delicious addition to savoury dishes, such as soups, stews and hotpots, adding a subtle depth of flavour, but before vanilla became so commonly used, bay leaves were popular in sweet dishes like custards, milk puddings and cakes too
The leaves are most often used whole (sometimes in a bouquet garni) and removed before serving
Bay leaves have well-established antibacterial, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and even analgesic properties. Traditional herbal medicinal uses include use as a digestive aid and to help with lymphatic conditions
Bay leaves can be used to make medicinal hydrosols, oils, tinctures and tisanes (teas)
