Our certified organic Elderberry Elixir is handmade here in small batches. It contains wild-gathered Elderberries from our organic hedgerows and Hyssop grown in our herb garden, as well as organic ginger, brandy and honey
Elderberries & Hyssop both have a long history of traditional use for coughs and colds. Elderberries were mentioned as far back as 400 AD by Hippocrates, and Hyssop is mentioned by King John I’s herbalist, John Parkinson (1567-1650)*, who references Dioscorides from mid-first century AD (using Hyssop for coughs and shortness of breath), Pliny the Elder (AD23-79) and Matthiolus (1501-77), who worked with Hyssop for thinning thick phlegm
Modern research backs up the traditional uses of Elderberries, showing that they may reduce the severity and duration of symptoms associated with upper respiratory infections and can also help prevent transmission of infection. Research also shows the effectiveness of Hyssop, which significantly induces antiviral cytokine (INFs-I) production and impedes the release of proinflammatory cytokines, suggesting the potential usage of Hyssop in antiviral drugs
